Weissburgunder, which as Pinot Blanc in neighbouring Alsace is regarded as a workhorse variety, is treated with considerable respect by the top growers of the Südpfalz. Boris Kranz with Ilbesheimer Kalmit and Dr Wehrheim withh Birkweiler Mandelberg set the benchmark making rich wines with real character.
