ESTATE

Our family has been cultivating vineyards around Ilbesheim for generations. Together with his wife Kerstin, Boris Kranz developed the winery into what it is today.

Building on the achievements of his parents, Xaver Kranz, now in the fifth generation, is making his own mark: establishing the Kleine Kalmit with its single-vineyard wines as one of the most renowned origins.

PHILOSOPHY

Our tradition is to get things done! In just a few generations, our winery has become the benchmark for cool white wines and Pinot Noir from the Kleine Kalmit.

We stand for authentic, clear, and long-lasting wines. The foundations for this are our vineyards, their soils and sites, and careful craftsmanship in the vineyard—because only what nature provides can be preserved in the cellar.

FAMILY HAND · CLEAR DECISIONS

As a family-run winery, we keep all processes under our own control. Since 2023, Boris and Xaver have been working together as father and son when it comes to the vineyard and cellar. This allows them to carefully align each step of the process with our philosophy.

“Every bottle bears the signature of our family.”

CRAFTSMANSHIP

All of our wines are produced using traditional methods. With passion and a willingness to always go the extra mile, we accompany every step in the vineyard and cellar. This is how we create unique wines—an expression of craftsmanship, origin, and dedication.

We treat each terroir individually, because every soil, every site and every year has its own character.

That's why we carefully reconsider all our decisions year after year – from pruning to picking.

We focus on living soils, a harmonious balance in the vineyard and healthy grapevines – the foundation of great wines.

KRANZ FAMILY

Boris Kranz

BORIS KRANZ

He pioneered a new style at a young age: clear Rieslings and Burgundies with strong character. With artisanal precision and a healthy dose of idealism, he led the winery to the top of German wine producers and thus into the VDP. His commitment made it possible to register Ilbesheimer KALMIT as a single vineyard—a historic success that forever links his name to this vineyard. Boris Kranz is the driving force behind the winery and, together with his son Xaver, is pushing ahead with its further development.

Kerstin Kranz

KERSTIN KRANZ

Together with her husband Boris, Kerstin has led the winery into its fourth generation. She coordinates the office at the winery and is passionate about being there for our customers. She is responsible for national and international sales, coordinates all processes and ensures that everything runs smoothly.

Xaver Kranz

XAVER KRANZ

Xaver has a clear focus: to push Pinot Blanc, Riesling, and Pinot Noir to their limits with the Ilbesheim terroir of the Kleine Kalmit and its forward-looking microclimate. After studying in Geisenheim and completing various apprenticeships with Franz Keller, Wagner-Stempel, Heinrich (Burgenland), and J. Christopher (Oregon/USA), he now brings new ideas to the cellar and vineyard every day. With his involvement in the family business since 2023, the style of the wines has gradually evolved.

Lara Simon

LARA SIMON

During her training as a winemaker and subsequent studies in Geisenheim, Lara gained valuable experience at several renowned wineries. Since 2025, she has been supporting the winery wherever she is needed. In sales, her focus is on the gastronomy sector—she actively networks, accompanies, and shapes collaborations.
